EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

We are a family-owned and operated resort. Golden Eagle Lodge operates as a resort and campground in the summer, and a nordic ski center in the winter. We are located 27 miles outside of Grand Marais in North-Eastern Minnesota. We are the only resort on Flour Lake and have direct access to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA).

Nestled in the Superior National Forest on the edge of the BWCA, nature is our playground. Hiking, fishing, and canoeing are some of the most popular outdoor activities in our area, but the list goes on. We encourage all staff to enjoy the wilderness and to take advantage of the opportunities our area offers.

To get you out there, a typical work week consists of five 8-hour workdays with two consecutive days off, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the area. We offer free use of most rental equipment including motor boats, canoes, and kayaks in the summer, and all cross-country ski equipment in the winter.

More About Employment and Our Area

Flour Lake is ideal for recreating, being small enough to canoe, kayak, and paddle board on, but big enough to support a healthy fish population. We maintain one of the largest cross country ski trail systems in Minnesota, and in the summer, these trails are great for fat tire and mountain biking. Additionally, nearby roads boast some very fast gravel for gravel biking and trail running! We are a dark sky sanctuary, making our night skies some of the darkest in the world – perfect for any aspiring photographer! Wildlife viewing, berry picking, and foraging occupy many summer and fall afternoons. Hang a hammock under a few of our many white or red pines and enjoy the amphitheater of the Boreal Forest. There is something for every outdoor enthusiast at Golden Eagle Lodge.

We typically employ a total of 6-8 employees and value an upbeat work environment. All of our employees receive some cross-training in multiple work areas, with job descriptions being tailored to each employee’s strengths. We are looking for applicants with great people skills who are detail oriented, physically active, and independent and self-motivated.

Housing

All staff are offered discounted housing at a flat rate of $5 per day, or about $150 per month. This covers all room expenses and utilities including trash, water, electric, and internet. The whole resort, including staff housing, is equipped with 100mbps highspeed Wi-Fi. Employee housing is located in a large shared building with a shared common area, kitchen, and dining area. Each employee will have their own private bedroom and bathroom with locks for each. The staff house also offers a covered deck, private yard, and a charcoal grill. There are raised beds in the backyard if anyone is interested in maintaining a garden. Coin laundry is available in staff housing for $1 per wash load – dryer use is free. Additional employee perks include paid major holidays, PTO, and simple IRA retirement plan.

Employees must have their own vehicle. While our staff lives on site and can walk to work, we are located 45 minutes or 27 miles from the nearest town, and everyone needs to be able to take care of themselves independently. There is no public transportation on the Gunflint Trail. Many things can be ordered via Amazon, Walmart, and other online retailers, but simply put, not everything can be done this way and trips to town are an occasional necessity.

If you are interested in employment, please fill out our online application completely. All interviews are scheduled based on review of a completed job application. Please be prepared to provide three job references.

After a job interview and reference check, all applicants will be background checked prior to any job offer being made.
